Amateur Radio

I know I recently ranted about the usefulness of ham radio operators. The recent unfortunate events in the midwest tornado outbreaks have provided an example of when self sustained radio stations are vital for communication.

This article from the ARRL (Amateur Radio Relay League) has the details. The ARRL is the large organization that keeps any eye on legislative issues related to amateur radio, much like the NAEMT for EMS and the IAFF & IAFC for the fire service and AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) for general aviation.
